Any ideas on series, publisher or date of this one?

  • From Lucienne:

    Artist : Katsuwaka Shuncho 勝川春章

    Signature : Shuncho 春潮画

    Publisher  : Nagahara 永原 (not in Marks)

    Kiwame seal from 1791 until 1805

    Fujiarts has an azuri-e reprint of the same scene

    Text dichipering

    淀屋内 (Yodoya-nai) (Yokoya Teahouse)

    くに代  (Kuniyo)

    あい女  (Ai onna) = (Aime あいめ)  *

    しづ子 (Shizuko)

    * Jisho.org give other forms

    女 【め】、妻 【め】、牝 【め】

    link to ARC for above spellings

    Comments from Horst Graebner:

    くに代 (Kuniyo) (this must be the lady on the left; the number of hairpins indicates her as superior and she is named first)

    あい女 (Aime あいめ) (the lady on the right)

    しづ子 (Shizuko) (the kamuro in the middle)

    There is a striking similarity between the characters of the Q&A print and that of the center panel of the MFA triptych (estimated date 1780-1790's)
