Hi,

These are drawings of slides projected in the late 1970s in an art history course at UC Davis. The drawings are from a notebook of a student. The first is likely a Japanese print, the second from a Chinese scroll. It would help greatly if anyone might please identify one or both of them, the artist, title…. or possible leads to find this info, even a scholar’s name I could contact.

I’m working on an essay and very much appreciate your attention and thoughts.

Thank you,

Rainbow

Hi Rainbow,  The Japanese print is reminiscent of the work of Nishikawa Sukenobu, both compositionally and stylistically.  If it's not a rendition of a Sukenobu print, it is probably one of his contemporaries, circa early 1700s.  Hope this helps.

Hi Marc, Thanks so much for this information. I looked up Sukenobu and there are some similarities. I will check into his contemporaries too.

      Thanks again,

      Rainbow
