Can someone help me understand this painting? Is it an Ukiyo-e print? By whom?
Your picture is too blury ! please post an image with readable text... if you do we'll at least be able to give you actor names/roles
Thanks
Finally no need to post a better picture !
Your print is the right panel of a triptych by Toyohara Kunichika, the artist's signature is on the left panel, as are date 1889 and publisher seal (see attached links)
Title : 恩愛睛関守 (On Ai Haru Seki Mamoru)
Actor : Nakamura Shikan 中村芝翫 Role : Munekiyo 宗清
Nakamura Ginnosuke 中村銀之助 Imawakamaru 今若丸

It's not the first time I see something like this. In your case only the publisher and date have been changed. Sometimes even the actor faces are replaced.

Thank you so much! This is very helpful :)
I just realized that exactly the same triptych exists with two different dates, each one is linked to a different performance
The 1889 triptych is linked to play
恩愛晴関守(おんあいひとみのせきもり)
Onai hitomi no sekimori performed at the Nakamura theater
and that of 1894 to 四絃恨景清ヵ (よつのいとうらみのかげきよ) Yotsu no Ito Urami no Kagekiyo (Four Strings and the Bitter Kagekiyo) performed at the Kabuki-za

Oh! That's a strange thing right?

Oh. Good to know. Thanks :)
