Can anyone help with identifying these two Osaka diptychs?
Thanks.
The diptych at the left is in fact the base of a quadriptych designed by Yoshihiro (好広). The actors are Arashi Tokusaburô IV as Chigo no Fukumaru and Kataoka Gatô II as Chigo no Tomimaru. The upper panel has the same actors in an other scene. Play: Katakiuchi Sôzenji Baba performed at the Takeda, 5/1865.
The second diptych is by Hironobu here signing Tôrin Hironobu (東林広信). At the right Arashi Tokusaburô IV, left Jitsukawa Enzaburô I. Could not retrace the performance but I presume it must date from 1863-64.
Thank you so much for the wealth of information! I appreciate your help.
